Traveling Guide for the Holidays with a Toddler

It’s no secret we travel a lot as a family, meaning Maverick comes with us as often as he can. Everyone has their own opinions on this, but we love going everywhere together and think it’s important for us to be together! I’ve shared tips on traveling with a toddler here, but let’s be real - the holiday’s are a whole new ball game!! Depending on your child’s exact age, they might know they’re headed somewhere special, eager about Santa coming...it’s just different!

Traveling with kids can sound really daunting, but I am here to tell you that YOU CAN DO IT! It just might look a little different than what you are used to! But, different doesn’t mean bad! So, here’s a little traveling guide for the holidays with a toddler:

Choose your plans wisely

Ok bear with me because this may be a given! But think about where you’re going and who you’re going to see. I know it’s often family, but sometimes we trek far to see friends, too!! Just make sure they’re ok with planning kid-friendly activities and are good with the spontaneous plans that having kids with you means.

Book according to your toddler

This is definitely a luxury, but if you can, book according to schedules that will accommodate your little buddy!! Meaning flights or car rides during nap times or bedtimes, perhaps a bigger and more secluded room where everyone will feel more at ease, etc. etc.

Stay flexible

Obviously it’s hard to be completely flexible with the holidays, but staying flexible is really important. Traditions are SO important this time of year, but keep in mind things might look really different with kids in the picture - and that’s ok!! The more flexible you are and willing to accept change, the more you’ll enjoy this season and your travels!

Pack extra goodies

Up to you on what goodies means...but traveling is much easier when your little is occupied and happy. For us, this has looked like a few new toys for the plane, maybe some stickers and some lollipops!

Plan ahead

Depending on your mode of transportation, it’s best to plan ahead and add in lots of stops. We stop way more when we’re driving because it helps Mav to release his energy along the way and to have scheduled stops for the bathroom! Plus, this way you can give your host a better idea of what time you will actually get there.
